You are what you eat
You are what you can ABSORB.
Poor digestion is very common and eating a wholesome diet doesn’t mean your body can break it down and assimilate the nutrients effectively. Many factors such as stress, processed foods, alcohol consumption and inadequate nutrient status can result in reduced stomach acid or digestive enzyme production, altered microbiome and an overburdened liver. Optimal levels and function are vital for strong and healthy digestion.
You are what you eat, EATS.
Huh? The soil that plants are grown in and the food our animals are fed directly impacts the nutrient profile of the food we eat.
Plants derive nutrients from the soil that then become the nutrient profile of that plant. When grown in poor soil, these plants can be lower in certain nutrients such as selenium, potassium and magnesium. Unfortunately, the large scale industrialised farming practices of today mean that our plants do not have the same level of nutrients they did 100 years ago. Another reason to support our local farmers or grow your own!
Feeding the animals that end up on our plate also plays an important role in our nutrient intake. Grains such as wheat, corn and soy are commonly fed to livestock but do not form part of their natural diet.
Optimal nutrition from the animal products we eat relies heavily upon a diet that is natural for them.
What we eat (and absorb and feed our plants and animals) absolutely affects our health beyond just our weight.... just some food for thought.
