Do you know what a day’s worth of veggies looks like?
The daily recommended intake is for 5 servings but very few of us achieve this target. So what exactly is 5 servings and what does it look like?
A single serve is either 1/2 cup of cooked / raw vegetables or 1 cup of leafy salad greens.
If you are eating all your vegetables exclusively at dinnertime, it should look like this picture.
Doesn't look too appealing or achievable right? If you start your veggie intake early and spread it throughout the day it is totally doable.
Here’s a few other ways you can get your daily intake across the day:
1 serving in an omelette at breakfast
1 serving of veggie sticks as a snack
1 serving as a side salad or on a wrap with your lunch
2 servings of steamed / roast veg with your dinner
There are many other options to add to your meals or you could simply increase your portions and eat them with 2 meals.
If you are drinking veggie juice, view this as an added bonus of nutrients and phytochemicals in addition to your daily 5 and include whole foods to reach your target.
